Greenbrier Historical Society attempting to crowdfund $60,000 for acquisition of historical war site

ALDERSON, WV (WOAY) – The Archaeological Conservancy, the West Virginia Land Trust, and the Greenbrier Historical Society are launching a crowdfunding campaign for the acquisition of a Revolutionary War site.

Arbuckle’s Fort in Greenbrier County has previously been used for archaeological digs, but the county wants to transform it into an educational tourist site for conservation pusposes.

According to the secretary of the Greenbrier Historical Society Margaret Hambrick, they’re trying to crowdfund $60,000 to help facilitate the process.

“The Greenbrier Historical Society is just absolutely thrilled to be working with the archaeological conservancy and the West Virginia Land Trust to facilitate the purchase of this property. And we are really excited about it being a wonderful addition to the tourism assets here in the Greenbrier Valley,” Hambrick said.

After raising the funds, the Greenbrier Historical Society is expected to complete the project in a few years time.

Donations to the effort can be made at the Archaeological Conservancy website here.
