Greenbrier Excited to Host World TeamTennis

GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Hear from Greenbrier Director of Public Relations Cam Huffman as the countdown continues to the arrival of World TeamTennis in Southern West Virginia.

The professional tennis league will hold its entire 2020 season at the resort starting July 12, with three matches per day planned at the Center Court at Creekside during the regular season. Semifinal and championship matches are slated for August 1st and 2nd, respectively, with plans to use the resort’s indoor courts in the case of inclement weather.

Huffman also discusses how World TeamTennis differs from tour events, with WTT matches tending to be more fan-interactive. In terms of how matches are played, five sets are contested (one set each of men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles) with the first team to win five games declared the set winner. The team with the most total games won from the five sets wins the match.

The 2020 season will feature nine teams: Chicago Smash, New York Empire, Orange County Breakers, Orlando Storm, Philadelphia Freedoms, San Diego Aviators, Springfield Lasers, Vegas Rollers, and Washington Kastles.
