Ansted, WV (WOAY) A Greenbrier County man is facing charges in Fayette County.
According to a criminal complaint, on July 7, around 1:14 p.m., an officer patrolling Route 60 in Ansted noticed a grey sedan traveling eastbound.
The driver reportedly gave police a suspicious look once after observing the cruiser in the town hall parking lot and allegedly tried to hide his face as he was driving by.
A female passenger in the front seat watched the cruiser as the vehicle drove by, supposedly to see if the officer would follow them.
Authorities pulled onto Route 60 to follow the sedan, which allegedly sped up and turned onto a back road.
The officer drove to the other end of the back road to meet them head-on and observed the driver had switched seats with the female passenger.
As the officer initiated their lights and sirens to stop the vehicle, they noticed the suspect attempting to hide something in the car’s floorboards.
Authorities got out of the cruiser to interview the female driver, identified as Carla Hedrick, asking why they attempted to dodge police.
Hedrick responded that they had just returned from fishing and she had the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Anthony Martin of Rupert, take the wheel because “she does not like to drive through Ansted.”
Martin did not have a valid driver’s license due to an active DUI.
Authorities asked if they had any drugs or weapons in the vehicle, to which they responded they did not.
After collecting their information, dispatch checked for any active warrants while the officer on the scene asked for consent to search the vehicle.
Hedrick consented to the search, which led to the discovery of a clear bag containing approximately 8.7 grams of suspected crystal meth on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Martin was arrested for Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and driving with a revoked driver’s license due to an active DUI.
Martin was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and now awaits further court proceedings in Southern Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
