Greenbrier County is expected to switch to majority Republican

GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – For the first time in history, Greenbrier County is expected to switch to the majority Republican.

Greenbrier County is only 85 registered voters away from flipping the county red. In order for the county to turn red, 85 democrats or independent voters will have to register as a Republican to take the lead, the shortest margin in history. Chairman for the Greenbrier County Republican Party, Ben Anderson says the county has come a long way compared to 2016 when there was a 5 thousand person gap.

“So we’re excited, four years ago the gap between Democrats and Republicans in Greenbrier County was almost five thousand and today it’s only 85,” said Anderson. “So it’s been a very rapid decline in registration numbers in the democratic party in the Greenbrier County and that really to us shows that they value to Greenbrier county residents is really aligning with the republican party.”

Anderson says he expects the majority switch to occur in the next two weeks.
