Ronceverte, WV (WOAY)- The Greenbrier County Health Department is issuing a public health advisory following a positive case of rabies in Ronceverte.
According to the health department, on Monday, November 24, an unidentified wild animal in the area tested positive for rabies.
Rabies is a serious viral illness that is transmissible to pets, livestock, and humans through bites or contact with saliva.
The department urges the community to protect themselves by avoiding contact with wild animals, especially bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes.
Additionally, ensure your pets and livestock are vaccinated against rabies and up to date on their shots.
Finally, if you or your pet has been exposed, contact your local healthcare provider or veterinarian immediately.
