Governor Patrick Morrisey submits formal request to make changes to SNAP benefits

Charleston, WV (WOAY)—Governor Patrick Morrisey has formally submitted a waiver to the federal government to change how recipients use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Governor Morrisey is requesting to remove soda from approved purchases, add healthy, hot food options, and change work requirements under the program.

The initiative is part of the Governor’s four pillars of a healthy West Virginia: cleaning up the food, finding purpose and health, moving your body and changing your life, and rewarding healthy choices.
