West Virginia WOAY)West Virginia students will have a new challenge to help them discover the joy of reading.
Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced the launch of the West Virginia Dolly Days Read-A-thon, a statewide reading challenge inspired by Dolly Parton’s commitment to childhood literacy.
The challenge begins October 1 and is open to all West Virginia students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade.
Students will have until December 31 to read 25 books, an average of about two books a week.
Students can track their progress using a paper reading log, available online or at participating public libraries.
Completed logs must be submitted by January 5.
Every child who completes the challenge will receive a special completion sticker, and randomly selected participants will have the chance to win special Dolly Parton-themed prizes from Blenko Glass.
Winners will be announced on January 19, Dolly Parton’s birthday.
For more information or to register, families can contact their local public library.
