Governor Morrisey unveils 25 year plan to make WV an energy production powerhouse

Wheeling, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey spoke at a press conference in Wheeling, unveiling a 25 plan that he says will put the mountain state at the forefront of American energy production.

The Governor said that he wants the state to be producing 50 gigawatts of power by 2050.  West Virginia currently has 15 gigawatts of generating capacity.

Morrisey said that West Virginia will need to preserve its coal-fired power plants, but needs to also work to incorporate other forms of energy, including natural gas and nuclear energy.

In an interview with Newswatch ahead of the speech today, the Governor said the 25 year plan allows the state to have continuity as it prepares for the future. Governor Morrisey said that the plan will support energy jobs in West Virginia. He also said it will also expand the West Virginia tax base, which will have far-reaching impacts on the state’s economy.
