Governor Morrisey unveiled reforms to the state’s child welfare system

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – In a press conference today in Charleston, Governor Patrick Morrisey unveiled reforms to the state’s child welfare system.

Governor Morrisey described the changes as increasing transparency and ending years of stonewalling.

The changes include standardized frameworks for caseworkers, more oversight of child welfare cases, better tools to interpret data, and allowing caseworkers to gather more information instead of relying on referrals.

Morrisey also said the state would now fully comply with federal law that requires that important details in child abuse or neglect cases that result in death be made public.

He said that’s something the state has failed to do in the past few years, and it has to change.
