Governor Morrisey asked Trump Administration to issue a major disaster declaration after severe flooding

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has asked the Trump Administration to issue a major disaster declaration for Fayette, Kanawha, and Harrison counties after severe flooding last month.

624 homes were damaged or destroyed.

The governor has asked for individual assistance from the federal government for all three counties, as well as hazard mitigation grants statewide.

The three affected counties have an extremely low rate of flood insurance coverage.

In a statement, Governor Patrick Morrissey said, “When families lose their homes or face repairs they cannot possibly afford on their own, government should work together to help them recover. This is exactly why federal disaster assistance exists. We will continue fighting to make sure these communities have the resources they need to rebuild.”
