Governor Morrisey appoints new Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has appointed Michael Baylous as the new Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security.

Baylous brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience to the role, most recently serving as U.S. Marshal for the southern district of West Virginia since 2018.

Before that, he worked with the West Virginia State Police in several positions, including trooper, investigator, and public information officer.

As a U.S. Marshal, Baylous directed operations that resulted in hundreds of felony arrests and the recovery of missing children.

He officially retired from the U.S. Marshals Service this past Sunday to take on his new state role.
