West Virginia (WOAY)-Governor Patrick Morrisey announced a significant update to West Virginia’s broadband expansion efforts.
The Department of Commerce’s Office of Broadband has released new Program Procedures for the state’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment—or BEAD—funding program.
Governor Morrisey says this is the next step toward submitting the state’s final BEAD proposal and securing critical funding to connect West Virginia.
The changes follow new federal guidelines issued in June, which include a technology-neutral approach and a new “Benefit of the Bargain Round” that prioritizes low-cost, high-impact broadband projects.
The round begins on Thursday, July 10, and runs through Sunday, July 20, providing both new and existing applicants with the opportunity to submit or revise their project proposals.
The state has also updated its list of BEAD-eligible locations using new federal broadband maps.
A final proposal will be open for public comment in August, with a submission deadline of Wednesday, September 3.
