Black Knight Country Club Announces Closure, Makes Arrangements for Members

BECKLEY– A country club that has been a part of our area for 89 years announced on Thursday that they have closed their doors.

Members of the Black Knight Country Club in Beckley received an email on Thursday morning saying the closure is effective immediately. The club is offering members who have prepaid their dues a six month membership to Glade Springs Resort in Daniels. They said Black Knight members will have a full family membership with no monthly minimum.

Byrd White who has been the acting manager of the country club, says the reason for the closure is simply because of a decline in membership.

He says this is a big loss for the area.

“It’s a big blow. It’s a big loss to Beckley and Raleigh County, but it’s just not economically feasible. There was a bunch of good employees out there, really good loyal employees that I hate it for,” Byrd says.

Byrd also says they are working to find all those employees new jobs.
