PRINCETON, WV (WOAY) – Last year, Woody Williams advocated for a Gold Star Family Monument in Mercer County.
The monument would be dedicated to families who lost loved ones in combat. Mercer County officials worked to fundraise for the monument, and it is currently under construction. It will be located next to the Mercer County War Museum.
“I’d say it’s going to be a very great added attraction to the war museum,” said “Those Who Serve” War Museum President Tony Whitlow. “It’s a Gold Star Memorial. It recognizes the war veterans who gave everything. Most everybody recognizes what war veterans have done for this county. It’s kept us free, and it’s a recognition to these people that gave everything.”
The dedication for the monument is currently scheduled for October 24th.
