Girls Class AA Semifinals: Wayne vs. Wyoming East

Charleston, WV (WOAY) – Wyoming East girls basketball will play for the Class AA state championship after a 69-50 win over Wayne Friday morning.

The Pioneers began the game with the momentum, jumping out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter. The Warriors, though, responded in the second quarter, outscoring Wayne 22-11 to take a 32-26 lead into halftime.

That momentum would continue in the second half, as Kara Sandy led Wyoming East with 22 points. Jasmine Blankenship had 18 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds, while Emily Saunders also came close to a triple-double (17 points, nine rebounds, eight blocks). Wayne’s Aeriel Adkins scored 26 points.

Wyoming East will face North Marion at noon Saturday in Charleston. The Lady Warriors will seek their second Class AA state championship in three years.
