General Motors recalls over 800,000 pick up trucks due to safety issue with vehicles’ tailgates.

Oak Hill, WV (WOAY)- General Motors recalls over 800,000 pickup trucks because of a potential safety concern with the vehicles’ tailgates.

GM says the issue surrounds the electronic latch mechanism to open the gate of some Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra truck beds.

The automaker says if water gets into the tailgate, the mechanism to keep it closed might short circuit.

The gate might accidentally open while the vehicle is parked.

The pickup trucks involved include the 2020 to 2024 model years.

General Motors has received more than 130 complaints about the tailgate problem and a report of one minor injury.
