Gateway to Sandstonia finally secured

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Land Trust finally secured permanent access to one of the New River Gorge’s most popular rock- climbing areas, “Bubba City”, also known as “Sandstonia”.

The newly acquired land stretches 40 acres and provides a secure way to get to over two miles of cliff-line containing hundreds of different established rock climbs.

Climbers have been using the land for over 25 years but in order to get there, they had to cross private land, with this new agreement, that is no longer an issue.

“The climbers take for it is that it’s a real positive because it connects what is national park land to safe public access,” Kenny Parker, a New River Alliance of Climbers board member said.

The West Virginia Land Trust (WVLT) has big plans for the land, including new parking, new trails, updated signs and more.

For those with the land trust, it is about so much more than a piece of land,

“Its about the people, its about the animals, its about the water,” Shannon Gillen, a Preserve Steward said.
