Gary Police Department receives ambulance grant

GARY, WV (WOAY) – McDowell County has been looking to upgrade its ambulance care. Recently, an employee of Gary died after waiting for an hour for an ambulance.

Police Chief Pat McKinney discusses what measures are being taken to prevent a situation like this from happening again.

“What we did was we applied for a grant, and were able to get these automatic electronic defibrillators and put them in a police car and in a fire truck,” McKinney said. “And if we have a similar situation anywhere in Gary, we can hopefully keep a heart patient alive until the ambulance gets there.”

The police department was given the funding for two units, which all personnel will be trained on.
