MINDEN, WV (WOAY)- In 2011, movement toward revitalization came to the City of Oak Hill with a $14 million sewer improvement project.
“It was a pretty serious problem in Arbuckle Creek with bacteria or pollution coming into the creek from the Minden plant and realized something needed to be done,” said George Santucci, President At New River Conservancy.
Oak Hill City Manager and city organizations came together Friday afternoon to discuss the new plans for the sewer lines.
“The City is taking steps to improve the environment with this project by cleaning up the streams and protecting our environment,” said Jonathan Carpenter, Project Manager at Thrasher Engineering.
John Tuggle, Executive Director of Region Four Planning and Development Council shared the importance of the sewer line project for tourists.
“Visitors are coming to the area and seeing overflowing sewage. That’s something you don’t want to promote. So this project will help alleviate it, especially in this area. This has been a problem for a while now,” said Tuggle.
The project is expected to be completed by 2019. In the words of Bill Hannabas, City Manager, “We are and will improve a lot of the area.”
