OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a cool and increasingly sunny day today around the region. Temperatures were cool, as most areas wound up in the upper 50s.
With that cool start, mostly clear or clear skies, and a long enough night to allow for some radiational cooling, temperatures will be cold enough that we’ll see patchy frost in the central and northern parts of the area. In the higher elevations, temperatures will drop to or just below the freezing mark. Because of this, the National Weather Service has issued Frost Advisories for the Central and Northern Parts of the area and a Freeze Warning for Northwestern Pocahontas County through tomorrow morning.
After the cold start to the morning tomorrow, temperatures will rebound nicely and will wind up in the mid-60s. That’s not quite where they should be for this time of the year, but it is warmer than it was today. With an approaching system from the northwest, the flow turns around to the south, and that means that warmer weather is in the forecast for this weekend. This weekend is Mother’s Day weekend, and it looks like a mixed bag weather-wise. Saturday should be a nice day, although there will be a good breeze. Showers and storms return to the area on Sunday as the front arrives.
Rain chances remain in the forecast through early Monday before ending. This next front once again drops our temperatures to levels that are around 10 degrees below normal as we start off the traditional work week. Readings do rebound later in the week, but the overall temperature pattern continues to feature below normal readings. As for precipitation, there will be additional chances for some much-needed rainfall through the end of the extended forecast. That’s good news, because the latest drought monitor that came out today continues to show the area in a severe drought.
