Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – A popular trail system in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve will soon be getting some much-needed TLC.
According to a media release on the Friends of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Facebook page, the upper portion of the Kaymoor Miners Trail will close for a rehabilitation project.
The plan is to close the trail Monday through Thursday starting June 20, 2025, going through November 14, 2025. The trail will remain open on weekends Friday through Sunday during the rehabilitation project.
During the week while work is being done, the Kaymoor mine site and the Kaymoor stairs will be accessible via the Kaymoor Trail from either Fayette Station Road or the Craigs Branch Trail.
According to the Friends of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, the renovation project will greatly improve both the sustainability and safety of the Kaymoor Miners Trail long term. The ask for patience from trail users while the project is underway.
Any updates to the closure plan will be posted on the Friends of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve Facebook page or New River Gorge National Park & Preserve (U.S. National Park Service).
