Free Covid-19 tests will be available from the US government by the end of September

West Virginia (CNN)- The new COVID variant XEC is rising just ahead of the fall and winter months when many respiratory viruses circulate. 

To prepare, the U.S. government is making more at-home COVID-19 tests available for free. 

Each household can order a new round of -four- free at-home test kits. 

The new test kits will be available by the end of the month.

The U.S. Department of Human Health reports more than 900 million test kits have been delivered through the program.
