Mount Hope, WV (WOAY) A Mount Hope cosmetology school is helping children start the school year with a fresh look.
Mount Hope Beauty Academy holds free back-to-school haircuts on Wednesday, August 12th.
The academy says the cuts are open to boys and girls, roughly ages 5 to 15, offering everything from buzz cuts to layering, or even just a basic trim.
Owner Michelle Maldonado says the idea came together for a few reasons.
“We wanted to do free back-to-school kids’ haircuts to be able to boost kids’ confidence when they start school, to give back to the community, and to also have my students have some good practice as well.”
Instructor Erica Brooks says she is looking forward to the opportunity to give something back to the community that she wished was available to her.
“There’s a lot of kids out there that don’t have that opportunity to go get their haircut. I remember when I was growing up that that wasn’t on our list. That was definitely not top priority. And I’m excited that kids can have a chance to look sharp when they go to school, build their confidence.”
