Frank Beamer to be Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

WOAY – Former Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer is part of the Class of 2018 for the College Football Hall of Fame, as announced Monday. It was his first year of eligibility.

Beamer led the Hokies from 1987 until his retirement in 2015, recording 238 wins – the most in school history. He also won 42 games in six seasons with Murray State prior to arriving in Blacksburg. Beamer ranks 13th on the all-time wins list among all NCAA divisions.

It was under Beamer that the Hokies began their streak of bowl appearances that reached 25 years last December, when they lost to Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl. He won seven conference championships – three with the Big East and four with the ACC, and led the Hokies to five top-10 finishes.

Among those who join Beamer in the Class of 2018 are former coaches Mack Brown and Mel Tjeerdsma, and former players Charles Woodson, Calvin Johnson, and Ed Reed. The honorees will officially be inducted in December.
