Charleston, WV (WOAY) – A formal postal worker was sentenced in federal court for obstructing mail delivery.
According to a media release, 26-year-old Brice Allen Pomeroy of Hernshaw, was sentenced today to two years of federal probation and ordered to pay $2,051.21 in restitution for obstruction of mail.
According to statements made in court, on May 11, 2023, Pomeroy willfully threw away approximately 227 pieces of mail by depositing a large plastic bag containing the mail pieces into a trash can at a Charleston gas station.
At the time the crime was committed Pomeroy was employed by a United States Postal Service vendor as a mail handler at the vendor’s facility in Charleston. The discarded mail included Mother’s Day, graduation, anniversary, and birthday cards. Any cash or gift cards that had been in the mail pieces were removed by the time they were discarded at the service station. Over $2,000 in cash or gift cards was reported stolen.
