Morgantown, WV (WOAY) – Former Mountaineer Quarterback Geno Smith is headed to Vegas.
The Las Vegas Raiders picked up Smith in a trade with the Seatle Seahawks according to the website NFL.com. The Raiders will also be giving a 2025 third-round pick to Seattle in exchange for Smith, per the insiders.
Smith had a career resurgence in 2022 taking over the starting position from Russell Wilson posting a career-best 69.8 completion percentage, 4,282 yards and a 30-11 TD-INT ratio to help get the Seahawks to the playoffs. That season performance earned him a three year. $75 million dollar deal with the Seahawks, but he was never able to replicate the same success. Seattle missed the playoffs in each of the past two years.
When Smith was given the starting Quarterback position by then Seahawks Pete Carroll. Carroll is the current Las Vegas Raiders Coach.
Smith played at WVU from 2009 through 2012. He was selected as the 39th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
