Former Mount View, Wyoming East coach Thompson headed to Louisiana

WOAY – Larry Thompson, the former head football coach at Mount View and Wyoming East high schools, announced in a Twitter post Monday that he has taken an assistant coaching position at University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Thompson was in charge of the Golden Knights for several years, helping lead the school to the Class A quarterfinals in 2018. He took over the Warrior program in 2019, as Wyoming East made the Class AA playoffs for the first time in five years, but resigned in January.

A Thompson-coached player has been a WOAY Football Player of the Year finalist each of the past three years: Elijah Collier in 2017, Elijah Barner in 2018, and Caleb Bower in 2019.

His new school, which is affiliated with Louisiana State University, is the alma mater of several former NFL players, along with 2008 NBA champion Glen “Big Baby” Davis and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed.
