Forest Service reports Whitman Fire in Greenbrier County is now 100% contained

White Sulphur Springs, WV (WOAY)-Forest crews and local firefighters have contained that large wildfire in Greenbrier County.  

The Forest Service reports the Whitman fire is now 100% contained. 

The fire was 6 miles north of White Sulphur Springs, near Brushy Mountain between Forest Service Road 718 and Whitman Draft on the Monongahela National Forest.  

Forest service staff, using a type three helicopter, a bulldozer, and four engines, secured a line around the fire to reach full containment.  

While there are no threats to the established lines, some smoldering and light smoke may still be visible.  

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
