Fayette County, WV (WOAY) Flooded areas can pose dangers that you may or may not be able to see on the surface.
The combination of flood waters and downed power lines can be deadly. Floodwater can also carry lumber with rusty nails and glass that can lead to puncture wounds.
And then there’s the danger we can’t see.
Flooding can cause breaks in sewer lines, leaving the water contaminated with E. Coli and Salmonella.
EMS officials urge residents to use caution when dealing with flood water. If you come into contact with water or flood debris, contact your local medical professional for a tetanus shot.
