First Snow Greets High Elevations; Major Pattern Change Unfolds This Week

A series of low pressure centers crossing the region will foster a few rain showers tonight into early Wednesday; snow well north of I-64.

BREAKDOWN OF THE FORECAST: A brief clearing window may occur near sunset and then clouds fill in. Expect a rain shower or two tonight. Tuesday will bring more frequent spits of rain, with snow in the highlighted areas on the map. Tuesday evening into early Wednesday is when to expect roads above 3,000 feet (area shaded in the 2-3″ zone) to become snow-covered and slippery.

LATE WEEK TREND: Following a freeze early Thursday (growing season will end for the southern coalfields), we will see a big rise in temperatures Friday into the weekend as the weather pattern takes a complete flip-flop. This warmer pattern will be sustainable likely through October 25-26.
