First Choice Services’ 4th Annual Peer Recovery Retreat an inspirational experience

DANIELS, WV (WOAY) – First Choice Services kicked off its 4th Annual Peer Recovery Retreat at Glade Springs Resort on Oct. 8-10 to connect those in long-term addiction recovery.

“This is a little bit more than just an educational conference. It’s a time for peers in our area to come together to commune with each other, share experiences, stories, and resources,” said First Choice Services Director of Marketing and Communications Sheila Moran. “Also, a time to relax and have a good time, because these folks are the foot soldiers in the war on addiction in our state. It’s so inspiring to hear the stories from these people who have overcome so much.”

Peer Recovery Coach Andrea Johnson recently celebrated eight years in recovery, and calls it important and meaningful to give back in this way.

“It’s the only thing that matters, the only reason I’m here. And if you ask anyone like me, they’ll say the same thing because someone cared enough to stop and show us the way,” Johnson said. “That’s how you return the favor. When you make it, you turn around and bring anyone else behind you.”

FCS offers social service, addiction, and behavioral health helpline resources, including programs like Help4WV and WV Suicide Lifeline.
