Filmmaking Class for Students in Oak Hill

Oak Hill, W. Va. (WOAY)- An Oak Hill native is giving local students a chance to explore filmmaking this spring.

Hollie Dawson will be teaching a filmmaking class this March for students ages eight to seventeen. Dawson said her background in both education and film inspired her desire to teach after a childhood trip to Hollywood.

“When I was four years old, my mom took me to Hollywood and I kind of put two and two together. Hollie and Hollywood. I realized this was where I needed to be,” Dawson said. “I do not love the heat, so I decided to bring it back here and help kids find their voices through acting and filmmaking.”

Dawson said seven students are already signed up for the younger age group, and she is currently in talks with JC Films to give students hands on experience working on set.

Her background includes training through John Casablanca, on set experience with a Hallmark production, and a bachelor’s degree in education.

Dawson hopes the class will help students build confidence, develop creativity, and gain early exposure to opportunities in film and media.
