FDA approves asthma drug to also lessen food allergy reactions

Oak Hill, WV (CNN)- There’s new help for people with multiple food allergies.

On Friday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Xolair, a medication that can help to lessen the severity of those allergic reactions.

Patients will take an injection of Xolair once every two or four weeks.

The reaction is milder if they accidentally ingest something they are allergic to.

Xolair is not meant for the emergency treatment of allergic reactions.

The drug was initially invented to treat allergic asthma.
