Fayetteville swears in new assistant fire chief

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – The Town of Fayetteville swore in a new assistant fire chief on Thursday night.

Stephen Harp has been a firefighter with the town since the 1990s.  Now, he’s excited for his new responsibilities, and he hopes to help bring in young people to the profession.

“We’re trying to get the next generation brought into the fire department,” he said. “Fire fighting’s a young man’s game, and we need to get the younger people in the fire department and interested and moving into more leadership positions and moving them up in rank.”

Harp was appointed for the position by the town council.
