FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – Hurricane Helene has caused widespread devastation across the southeast since it first made landfall. The storm left North Carolina communities in ruins.
So the Fayetteville Police Department has stepped up to do anything it can to help the Tar Heel State.
“We’re taking up donations for the town of Bostic and some other little small communities,” said Patrolman Kenny Cullum. “They really, really need help. We have just a little bit of stuff here. We’ve got a big trailer we want to take down so besides that, help these people out — anything, anything helps.”
Whatever you can spare for these North Carolina communities ravaged by Hurricane Helene will mean so much.
“Toiletries, canned goods, dry foods,” Cullum said, adding no used clothes.
Some of our local businesses have committed to support relief efforts — including food, water and essential supplies for all those affected.
“Walmart has stepped in and they’re putting out donation boxes until we leave,” said the patrolman. “Hilltop Coffee, located on Mall Road in Oak Hill — that’s another dropoff location.”
As soon as Helene hit, the Fayetteville Town Council ensured the police could help our southern neighbors.
“They’ve approved for us to do this. So that means a lot,” Cullum said. “They said whatever we needed to do; so that’s what we’re gonna try to do.”
The Fayetteville Police Department is gathering supplies they need to head down. They helped battle this disaster locally and want to make a difference in North Carolina.
“We’re a small community; Fayette County alone,” said the patrolman. “We’re all supportive of each other and I love being a part of helping out.”
