Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – A Fayetteville man has pleaded guilty in federal court to taking money that was meant for gravemarkers.
Jeffrey Phares, a sixty-five-year-old man from Fayetteville, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges filed in the Northern District of West Virginia.
He owned four cemeteries in North Central West Virginia… According to a press release, he took money intended for grave markers and used the money for personal things.
He then misled the victims about delivery delays.
He agreed to pay restitution and faces up to twenty years in prison.
