Fayetteville hosts Wizard Weekend

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – January 29 – 31 kicks off a weekend of magic and fun with Fayetteville’s Wizard Weekend.

Visitors gathered from all over for themed shopping, and fun activities for all ages as Fayetteville transforms into a magical village. Saturday’s main events took place at The Gaines Estate.

“I just learned how to do magical spells and make potions, but I’m looking just forward to maybe drinking some butter beer downtown at the Cathedral Café,” Fayetteville resident Roseann Michaels said.

This year is the second annual Wizard Weekend. Due to COVID-19, the majority of activities is taking place outdoors and involve walking around town to allow for more social distancing.

“Last year was a little more intimate and this year we’re doing everything outside. We’re so encouraging people to bundle up for the weather and we’re spacing it all out. We’re spreading the event throughout town instead of having them in like specific indoor locations,” Executive Director Tabitha Stover.

During this year’s event, visitors had more self-guided activities where groups can explore things on their own including a wizard themed scavenger hunt throughout Fayetteville.

“I think Fayetteville is a really magical place so that makes it a great place to kind of post wizard theme the van embrace kind of the quirkiness that we have here,” Stover said.

Sunday’s festivities start at 9 a.m. and include a Wizard scavenger hunt at the Visitor Center.
