Hico, WV (WOAY) A Fayette County woman is facing DUI charges following a crash involving a dirt bike that seriously injured a juvenile rider.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded Friday, March 13, around 7:30 pm to a crash on Hawver Road in the Hico area.
Investigators report that a 2016 Jeep Wrangler and a Kawasaki dirt bike collided near the top of a small hill on the narrow roadway.
Authorities say the juvenile rider was thrown about 50 feet from the point of impact and suffered serious injuries.
The teen was airlifted to a hospital at Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment.
Deputies say the driver of the Jeep, 24-year-old Hope Rivera of Victor, showed signs of impairment at the scene and later tested .113 on a breath test, above the legal limit.
Rivera was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment.
She is in custody on a $15,000 cash bail.
The crash remains under investigation.
