KINCAID, W.Va. (WOAY) – A Kanawha River Railroad train derailed in Fayette County, leaving multiple cars off the tracks.
The derailment happened in Kincaid while the train was on its way to a coal mine. Railroad crews on the scene confirmed the train was empty at the time, and no injuries have been reported.
Reports first came in through a phone call around 4:45 pm on March 19, but the exact time of the derailment is still unclear. Crews have been working at the scene to assess the damage and determine how extensive the wreckage is.
It remains unknown what caused the train to go off the tracks. Investigators are looking into the incident, but there is no word yet on how long it will take to clear the area or if train traffic will be impacted.
