Fayetteville, WV (WOAY) The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after two dogs were abandoned outside the Fayette County Animal Shelter.
Shelter employees say they arrived in the morning on Tuesday, August 4, to find what appeared to be a large box covered with a sheet.
When they looked closer, they discovered a dog crate containing two dogs left partially in the roadway.
A bag of puppy food and another bag of dog food were also left at the scene.
Authorities say abandoning animals at the shelter after hours is considered animal cruelty and is a criminal offense.
This case is one of several, as the Fayette County Animal Shelter has posted on its social media page about animals being left outside the shelter, with one incident involving a small kitten abandoned on the property that ultimately had to be euthanized due to severe illness.
Shelter officials are requesting that the community not leave animals outside of the facility.
