Fayette County,WV (WOAY) Fayette County is mourning the loss of a notable community member who made a serious impact on the area.
Gene Worthington passed away on Sunday, January 11.
Worthington and his wife, Karen Vuranch, oversaw the 1993 renovation of the Historic Fayette Theater.
As a founder and longtime chairperson of the Historic Fayette Theater group, Worthington restored the building and directed many shows over the last 30 years, including the show back in 1993, titled Foxfire.
Worthington was also a showman, not afraid to take a break from the director’s chair and step into the spotlight as an actor.
His hard work and dedication set the stage for local arts and paved a legacy providing local creatives with a place to enrich and entertain audiences for years to come.
