Fayco Lumber & Supply preparing you for winter weather

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOAY) — Only two weeks into the New Year, Mother Nature has taken hold and not let go.

So one local business is a go-to stop for winter supplies, helping us survive the wicked weather.

“We’ve been out delivering salt to people. And a couple of weeks ago we delivered to several churches, Head Start over here,” said Fayco Lumber & Supply Sales/Production Manager Larry Harmon. “It’s a little difficult to get some of the material right now, but we’re surviving and getting it in here; heat tapes, insulation, pipe wrap, spray foam, all that kind of stuff, especially with the cold weather.”

People are cashing in — picking up multiples of certain items to stay prepared for the winter weather, especially ice melt (since) Harmon says it’s tough to get it everywhere.

“I try to keep a good stock of it; small bags and the big 50 lb. bags. We cut the red pipe here for natural gas for people to hook up the heaters and so forth because if the power goes out, you need some other kind of heat.”

According to Harmon, as long as you stay ahead of the storms and cold before it hits you should be okay. Start with keeping things at home you can use like ice melt and insulation: to ensure your windows and doors are well sealed. And if the temps plummet leave your faucets dripping so they don’t freeze.

“If you need to put heat tapes on some of the pipes — do that,” the sales/production manager said. “Wrap them, whatever you can do to keep the pipes from freezing.”

When it comes to other supplies, Fayco has plenty.

“Pex Pipe and fitting, shark bites to repair water lines if they get broke,” said Harmon. “We have a good supply of all that stuff. And my suppliers should have a load of salt in this weekend.”

He says to make sure you not only have supplies but your house doesn’t have a crawl space door open or anything else.

“You can get a can of spray foam, fill in any gaps, and that’ll keep the air from blowing in on your water pipes,” Harmon said. “Be safe through all this and spring’s coming.”
