WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Labor Day starts much like any other calm morning; patchy valley fog and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. Those headed back from vacation will have smooth sailing across the eastern coast. There are a few showers in the western half of the Carolinas, but these will not be impactful for travelers. If you are sticking around here for Labor Day, you are in for a treat!
After the fog dissipates, skies will remain mostly sunny through the day. Temperatures will rise into the upper 70s and lower 80s this afternoon. Outdoor plans will go off with little to no issue throughout the day. Sun protection and water are recommended for those staying outside for an extended period, but the heat will not be as impactful as last week. Conditions remain calm overnight as temperatures cool down into the 60s and upper 50s once again. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest details:
The dry and warm conditions continue to build through Wednesday. High pressure will help keep the atmosphere stable, which will keep any isolated shower potential at bay. Temperatures will increase slightly each day, eventually reaching the mid-80s by Wednesday afternoon. Thankfully, this is the peak of temperatures this week. The upper 80s and low 90s we saw last week will not be present, which keeps eat related issues to a minimum. Tuesday and Wednesday will be great days to enjoy the outdoors before the next round of active weather comes into the forecast.
A cold front will begin its approach from the Midwest on Wednesday, but will not reach us until Thursday. The morning commute will be smooth as mostly sunny skies remain for a few more hours. Afternoon conditions take a downturn as the front approaches, resulting in widespread showers and thunderstorms. Models are showing a lower amount of available energy for Thursday afternoon, but I am keeping an eye on the potential for stronger storms due to morning sun potentially bringing more available energy into the equation.
