Fall Fire Season begins October 1

West Virginia (WOAY)- October 1 marks the start of West Virginia’s annual fall fire season and the return of burning restrictions.

As a reminder, burning is prohibited from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm.

All fires after 5:00 pm must have a safety strip at least 10 feet wide and be attended to until entirely extinguished.

Individuals can only burn vegetation such as leaves, brush, and yard clippings.

Any person or company that causes a fire on grass or forest land must pay a fine between $100 and $1000, including an additional $200 civil penalty.

Statewide burning restrictions will remain until the end of fire season on December 31.
