Experts remind drivers to take care of their tires as National Tire Safety Week takes place now through July 4

West Virginia (WOAY) National Tire Safety Week is underway, running now through July 4th, reminding drivers to make tire safety a priority before summer travel.

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association says properly maintained tires improve vehicle safety and can help prevent costly roadside emergencies.

Drivers are encouraged to check tire pressure at least once a month and before long trips, inspect tread depth using the penny test, rotate tires every 6,000 miles, and ensure wheels are properly aligned.

Experts also recommend replacing tires that are six years old or older and knowing whether your vehicle carries a spare tire or an inflation kit.

With millions expected to travel over the holiday weekend, taking a few minutes to inspect your tires could help make your trip safer.
