Event organizers speak on Friends of Charity Auto fair being cancel

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – A popular annual event held in Beckley has had to cancel due to COVID-19.

Hospice of Southern West Virginia officials announced that the 2020 Friends of Charity Auto Fair and concert event has been canceled. Officials say it was a difficult decision but cites community safety during the COVID-19 pandemic as the primary factor in the cancellation.

“Not only as a part of the Steering committee but as a car enthusiast this is one of the favorite events for a lot of people to come to from all over. You have over 500 cars there, and car is community. We see people at car show that we don’t see any where else. So for this to be canceled like this or postpone until next year its a big thing,” said Committee member Danny Kincaid.

“With COVID-19 its not worth the risk to people’s health to have the Friends of Charity Auto Fair this year. The upside to all of this is all the hard work and planning and 2021 is going to be awesome,” said Director of Public Relations Christopher Clay.

Organizers are planning for next year’s event.
