Raleigh County, WV (WOAY) – With summer almost upon us, the city of Beckley kicked off the season by opening the New River pool from Tuesday to Saturday through August for all to enjoy.
And there are several other fun, physical activities.
The city is pleased to offer its residents a wealth of opportunities.
“We also have our men’s basketball leagues that Coach Ron Kidd helps us with over at Woodrow in conjunction with Active SWV. We have rock climbing, often with our outdoor rec person, Mitch Lehman, twice a month. All they have to do is contact Active SWV,” said Parks & Rec Director Leslie Gray Baker.
According to Baker, there is also pickleball six days a week in New River Park with Coach Barksdale, as well as drop-in basketball at Stratton throughout the summer, led by Brian and Gene Nabors.
“I am so glad the pool’s open. I love to hear the kids and their laughter in there,” the park & rec director said. “They’re fun and out getting their exercise in the sunlight after a long, hard winter, and not the prettiest spring either. So, just glad we offer something not every day of the week, but almost.”
