RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Energy Express’ open house at Ridgeview Elementary School celebrated the culmination of the award-winning six-week summer reading program.
The students shared their favorite pieces of artwork and writing to allow their parents to see what they accomplished.
“Without programs like this, a lot of kids are going to be at home, playing outside or on Xbox or whatever is on their phones,” said Community Coordinator Brittany Lucas.
According to Lucas, they’re getting fed, reading, writing, and doing art activities for the four hours they’re at school.
“Even when they don’t think they’re learning, they are,” she said. “So it’s extremely important to their writing and reading skills.”
