Electrolux announces recall of Frigidaire and Kenmore electric ranges due to fire and burn hazards.

Oak Hill, WV (CNN)—More than 200,000 Frigidaire and Kenmore electric ranges have been recalled because the heating surfaces can malfunction.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the heating surface can turn on when it’s in the off position.

The units can also fail to turn off when switched off and may also heat to the wrong temperature.

The ranges were initially recalled in 2009.

Since then, there have been multiple reports of fires and burn injuries.

The recall includes Frigidaire, Frigidaire Gallery, Frigidaire Professional, and Kenmore Elite smooth-top electric ranges.

They were sold between June 2001 and August 2009.

Contact Electrolux or register online to participate in the recall.

Whether or not the range can be repaired will depend on the serial number.
