FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WOAY) – It’s that time of year again. With the general election just two weeks away you can vote for the candidate of your choice — early.
Take advantage of the benefits of Fayette County’s early voting starting Wednesday, October 23 through November 2.
“It’s just a little bit easier to make your plan to vote. You have a ten-day window of time that you can come in,” said Fayette County Clerk Michelle Holly. “If you’re off during the week on a weekday or you work all week, you have two Saturdays available to come vote. It gives people more opportunity to vote than just on Election Day.”
There’s a list of official write-in candidates this year (2024). That means they filed the proper paperwork with the secretary of state. You’ll find a place on the electronic ballot to type in the name of your choice.
“Those will be counted on election night as well. We will have lists available at the polling locations and in early voting there is a list there if they want to go over it last minute to check for names or who they want to write in,” Holly said.
Early voting depends on how many people come out to vote. According to the Fayette County Clerk, in 2020 they had such a turnout they’ve since implemented changes to alleviate the wait time in line.
“Added electronic poll books, which makes that process go more smoothly, and a couple of extra machines so that more people can vote at once, said Holly. “We try to get you in and out as quickly as we can, but it could take a little bit of time.”
What we do on Election Day and leading up to Election Day is important to our country.
“I take a lot of pride in that (knowing) I’m a little part of that situation,” the Fayette County Clerk said. “But also it’s very humbling to know what kind of responsibility it is.”
